MBI 14-06: Required vATIS Usage

Postby Rick Rump » Tue Sep 02, 2014 4:40 pm

TO: All CPC-IT and CPCs in the Virtual Washington ARTCC.

PURPOSE: To standardize vATIS templates and usage across the ARTCC.

All CPC-ITs and CPCs holding at least an S1 rating, who have
completed the vATIS training (or already know how to use it) and are working a local control position or above (or ground/delivery if a controller working local control or above is active) shall utilize a vATIS if controlling for more than sixty (60) minutes. Voice ATISes shall only be used when matching real-world facilities lacking a D-ATIS or vATIS is not working.

vATIS templates for KDCA, KIAD, KBWI and KRDU (the four fields that we will be using vATIS for) will be available for all controllers via the ZDC forums by the effective date. Their usage is recommended for consistency.

Setting up vATIS is easy, please refer to http://www.radarcontact.me or ask a training staff member for assistance.

How do you request training for vATIS?

It's actually very straight forward to use, and we don't typically do any in house training on it. However, unless delegated by a higher level controller (like during events or if just center and some ground controllers are online), S1's do not put up or maintain an ATIS, as the VATSIM CoC requires someone there to provide tower-level services for the ATIS to be up (I.e tower, approach, or center).
